What is so different about Facebook than some other company that a user will encounter when opening an account?
When opening an account is the tracking data installed in the 'registry' of the linux os such as Microsoft Window's registry?
Can the data which is installed on one's system using Debian be purged at anytime?
Digital privacy is a hobby of mine.

Facebook (like the other big social networks) collects a large amount of data about users (and non-users as "Shadow Profiles"). This data can be analyzed and used in such a way to target users with ads on and off the platform. Facebook know how long you look at posts, your mouse movements, every keystroke and backspace. Users agree to this when they sign up, though. When a user quits, they are allowed in some countries to keep the data. There is also the more recent issues regarding the use of FB by the current US president.

Part of the tracking data is the cookie, the rest is the fingerprint of your system. Facebook (and the others) can track users across the web even with adblockers, etc. In fact, adding too many extensions for privacy makes your device easy to fingerprint making you unique and trackable.

Many people who talk about privacy talk about telemetry as well. Your browser can "phone home." Firefox might ping the sync service or Pocket. Opera sends some telemetry. Chrome sends a lot.

Back to FB: more recent issues regarding using user data for AI training troubles people quite a bit, as does the "masculine energy stuff," the censorship, the fact checking, the algorithm, etc.

Using Linix will not protect a user from tracking like this.
To rid oneself of say Facebook and others the only resort one has it to delete one's account with Facebook and others and wipe your hard drive and reinstall the OS?
You mentioned cookies. What about these companies installing whatever in a Linux registry?
Appreciate your comments.
